Experience the Coromandel Peninsula in a day on this comprehensive tour!
Coromandel Peninsula is a favourite holiday destination for many New Zealanders, and on this tour, you'll see why. In one day you'll see the famous Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove as well as amazing landscapes of ancient native Kauri forest, stunning white sand Pacific beaches on the east and the sheltered bays of the Hauraki Gulf on the west.
Starting with pick-up from your hotel in Auckland, you'll head south-east to Thames. From here the spectacular western coast road leads you straight to the Coromandel township. First off you will visit Driving Creek Railway and ride a mountain railway through the rugged landscape and regenerating native forest.
Your next stop is a quiet stroll in the pristine forest to view some of the magnificent kauri trees which once covered the Coromandel Peninsula. Your tour continues across the mountain divide and descends towards the east coast beaches where you stop for a delicious lunch from a local cafe. After lunch you'll visit Hot Water Beach where you can dig your own hot tub right beside the lapping waves. This is one of the only places in the world where naturally geothermal heated water bubbles up onto a beach!
A short drive away is Cathedral Cove, where the Pacific Ocean washes through a natural arch onto a white sandy beach backed by white cliffs. This stunning location was used for the filming of The Chronicles of Narnia. Afterwards it is time to head back to Auckland, exhausted but fulfilled following this epic day. You'll be dropped off at your Auckland accommodation at approximately 7:00 pm.
