Take a ferry ride to Stewart Island, the third biggest island in New Zealand and a nature lover's paradise!
Departing multiple times daily from Bluff or Invercargill, you'll cruise across the Foveaux Strait in comfort on this one hour ferry. During the crossing, keep a lookout for wildlife, especially seabirds. Watching mollymawks (albatross) soar behind the ferry is a fantastic sight. Comprehensive commentary provides information on the interesting landmarks commonly seen, including Dog Island Lighthouse, Ruapuke Island, the Titi Islands and Mt Anglem - Stewart Island's highest point.
Stewart Island is off the coast of the southern-most point of New Zealand and the last stop before Antarctica. Visiting Steward Island is a special experience and a glimpse into a simpler, slower lifestyle, in rhythm with the sea and the tides, attuned to the natural world of bush and beach. Roughly 85% of the island's 1570 square kilometres is a national park and it is one of the best places to see the iconic kiwi in its natural habitat.
