Regardless of your end destination, your day starts at the Puffing Billy railway station in Belgrave. Hop aboard this historic steam train, avoiding the long ticket lines with your pre-secured seats on the train.
Before long you will be peeking out of the window to admire the most iconic point of the journey - the historic Monbulk Creek Trestle Bridge!
The train will stop at Emerald Station and you can choose to disembark or continue travelling on to Lakeside Station. If you haven't packed a picnic lunch, don't stress - the Lakeside Tearooms at Lakeside Station have you sorted for all your food needs! When you're ready, jump on a returning train to take you back to Belgrave.
If you are choosing to travel on to Gembrook, you'll enjoy a ride of 24 kilometres along Puffing Billy's narrow gauge track. After Lakeside Station, continue on through Wright Forest and out into the open farmlands of Gembrook. The train will stop at Gembrook for 1 hour and 45 minutes so take the chance to stroll through the Gembrook township. Picnic and BBQ facilities are also available in the park adjacent to the station.

Between 12th - 30th November, Lakeside Station is scheduled to be CLOSED. At this stage, the following train journeys are scheduled to operate: Belgrave to Emerald Return. Belgrave Station is the start of the line for the Puffing Billy steam train, and is located one hour east of Melbourne, easily accessible by Metro Trains from the city centre.
Lakeside Station is located in Emerald Lake Park. You can pack a picnic or purchase lunch from our station kiosk (Lakeside Tearooms). Emerald Lake Park offers BBQ facilities, picnic tables and walking trails.
Gembrook Station is the terminal station and 24 kilometres from the Belgrave Station. Trains usually stop for 1 hour and 45 minutes at Gembrook so that you have enough time to visit the Gembrook township. Picnic and BBQ facilities are also available in the park adjacent to the station.

This tour requires a minimum of 2 people to book.
When returning back to Belgrave, you have the option of travelling on any of our timetabled trains on the same day.
Unfortunately there are no toilets available aboard Puffing Billy, however toilets can be found at each main station.
Alcohol is not permitted on trains (except the ones provided on dining cars).
We recommend you bring a warm jacket during the winter months.
We recommend you stop no more than 1.5 hours at each station.
For safety reasons, customers on the Puffing Billy steam train cannot put their legs out the side of the train. Currently there is no date on when this restriction will be removed.
