Get lost in the beauty of Great Ocean Road and enjoy a rainforest walk on this full day tour!
Known as Victoria's must-do road trip, this tour will show you the beauty of this coastal drive and take you past pristine beaches, through fresh rainforest and to the rugged limestone rock formations of the 12 Apostles. Setting out early from Melbourne, you'll head down to the Surf Coast, passing through gorgeous seaside townships such as Anglesea, Lorne and Airey's Inlet, stopping along the way for some morning tea and to breath in the fresh sea air while spotting surfers out on the water.
Your journey will then continue to the historic Great Ocean Road Memorial Arch, a monument to mark the original starting point of the Great Ocean Road, where you will get some great photos and learn the history of the soldiers who built this road and dedicated it to their fallen comrades from your guide.
Afterwards, you will have a welcome lunch break in Apollo Bay at the end of the surf coast, with your choice from a large menu at a local cafe freshly prepared for you. Once you have explored Apollo Bay, grabbed any souvenirs you wish to buy, or tasted some delicious ice cream, then it's time to get back on the bus to head inland to the Green Coast.
Along the journey you will make stops to look for Koalas hanging out in the wild. As they are exactly that, wild, we cannot guarantee where they will show up, but your experienced guide knows all the best spots to get out into the bush and spot them sleeping! Continuing up into the lush green Otway's you'll drive through towering Eucalyptus trees until you arrive at a patch of Cool Temperate Rainforest. Here you will take a walk through the tree ferns and marvel at the Myrtle Beach trees that provide perfect canopy shade and originate from when Australia was part of a super continent known as Gondwanaland.
Once out of the trees and back by the Southern Ocean you arrive in Port Campbell National Park, home to the iconic 12 Apostles where you will spend about 40 minutes and enjoy some free time to take in the views from every angle, walk along the boardwalks, and get the perfect pictures of this wild and rugged coastline. You will also head down to Loch Ard Gorge, and find rock formations such as Island Archway, Razorback and the 'Salt and Pepper Shakers'.
After a full day of exploring you'll say goodbye to the Great Ocean Road and turn back inland to drive back to Melbourne via country roads. You'll pass through farmlands en route to the country town of Colac where you can grab a quick bite for dinner (at own expense) if you wish.
