Located beneath the spectacular scenery of glaciers and Lord of the Rings film locations, the Matukituki River is the perfect place to experience the longest and most adventurous jet boat ride in New Zealand. You'll travel at speed over shallow braids, drift into turns, experience thrilling spins and stop in deep pools to breathe in the magic of the landscape.
After your adrenaline packed jet boat ride, it's time to enjoy a 50-minute remote nature walk. You'll walk deep into the mountains and off the beaten track, through moss covered forest, waterfalls and glacier-fed streams. Your experienced local guide will take you under Avalanche Glacier when conditions permit or into McGills Creek to explore one of the most beautiful and serene forest walks. Departure location: I-SITE Information Centre, 99 Ardmore Street, Wanaka
Please arrive at the departure location 20 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time.
Parking: Long term free car parking can be found on the edge of the lake outside of the CBD opposite Pembroke Park. Make sure there are no shops opposite where your car is parked.
Please allow 30 minutes prior to departure time to allow for parking and walking to the departure location. During Wanaka's busier season from December to February 40 minutes may be required.
Child ticket: Ages 4 - 14 years
Infants aged 0 - 3 years cannot take part in this tour.
Departure time: 10:00 am and 1:00 pm (October - April), 11:00 am (May - September)
Tour duration: 4 hours in summer, 3.5 hours in winter
This tour does not operate on selected days from May to June, 25 and 26 December.
This tour is not suitable if you are pregnant.
The wildness walk is not at a fast pace but there is uneven ground and some rocks to walk over.
